Back in August, it was rumored that Rockstar was working on a remake of a trilogy for the Grand Theft Auto series. It turns out that the rumors were true as Rockstar has since officially announced Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. This will include the original Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto 2, and Grand Theft Auto III.
For those who only joined GTA with GTA 3 and beyond, you might be a little surprised when playing the original GTA or GTA 2 because it feels like a very different game. The two original games feature 2D graphics and a top-down view of the map, as opposed to the newer iterations of GTA which are 3D and offer a third-person perspective.
According to Rockstar, “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will include extensive upgrades including graphic and modern gameplay improvements for all three titles, while maintaining the classic look and original look.” The company also notes that it will be removing current versions of original games from digital retailers next week, so you may want to hold off buying them for now, unless you really want to play the originals.
The trilogy will be available on PC as well as consoles like PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch later this year, while they will also find their way to iOS and Android in 2022.
