One of the main concerns when it comes to Android smartphones is how long the manufacturer will support the device. This usually depends from manufacturer to manufacturer, with some offering one major Android update, others offering 2-3. Then there are also security updates to consider, as we usually see 2-3 years of support.
However, with the upcoming Google Pixel 6, it looks like Google could offer up to five years of security updates. That’s according to a tweet by Evan Blass who shared a link to the Carphonewarehouse listing, which has since been deleted, that suggests Google will provide the Pixel 6 series with at least five years of security updates.

We’re not sure how many years of major Android updates it will get. If we had to risk guessing, we’d say at least two major updates, maybe three. However, Google then seems to promise that the device will be protected from the latest threats for at least five years.
This means that even if you don’t get major Android updates, your device will still be protected against security threats for a long time afterwards. Five years is actually a very long time because at the rate people are upgrading their phones, there’s a good chance they’ll get a new phone before they run out of support for security updates. Either way, we should get more details next week at the Google Pixel 6 event, so check back with us then for updates.
