Fat Joe got a lot of side eyes from hip-hop fans after saying that DaBaby is Tupac Shakur from 2021.
The bold statement was made while visiting Fat Joe with Big Tiger for BET’s “Rap City” revival.
Tigger played a game with Fat Joe, asking him for his opinions on who the 2021 release of some hip-hop legend is.
When Tiger asked “Who is the 2021 version of Tupac Shakur?” Joey Crack’s response left rap fans shaken.
“I should know Tupac,” Fat Joe replied. “I don’t know, it’s hard being those guys. You ask some crazy things. I’d say DaBaby.”
DaBaby shared the clip on his page, letting Fat Joe know he agrees with him.
After the clip went viral, Fat Joe received plenty of heat from fans to make the comparison.
In contrast, Joey Krak appeared on Instagram Wednesday to explain his unpopular opinion and refused to retract his statement.
“I don’t make excuses, I don’t say sorry, I’m not… none of that,” said Fat Joe. “But who is the new Tupac? I don’t know, but if I were to guess,” he said, adding that he knew the late Tupac Shakur in real life.
He then went on to explain why he specifically said DaBaby when he asked this question.
“I’m thinking… A real DaBaby. A real testimonial!” Fat Joe said. “Whether you like him or you don’t like him or whatever, I think he lives what he rapes. And that’s a lot like Tupac.”
Then Fat Joe made it clear that Dababi is not Tupac Shakur.
“Is it Tupac Shakur? No! Nobody will ever be Tupac Shakur.”
